The Diocesan of the Church of Torres Strait, the Reverend Gayai Hankin has resigned his See.  Primate of the traditional Anglican Communion said "I have accepted "with great sadness" the resignation of Bishop Hankin of the Church of Torres Strait from the Traditional Anglican Communion. As a result of his resignation, Bishop Hankin has ceased to be Bishop of the Torres Strait. The Synod of that Church will meet in April 2004 to elect a diocesan.

In a visit to a number of Islands in January, I found the Church to be in vibrant good health. I will return at Easter, and again for the "Coming of the Light" festivals in July. The senior priest by ordination, becomes the Administrator of the Church of Torres Strait under canon law of that church."

The Administrator of the Church of Torres Strait has announced the appointment of the Reverend Stanley Marama as Area Dean of the Top Western Deanery until the enthronement of the next Diocesan Bishop.
